A Little Cupboard

I've been on the hunt for armoires. Armoires galore.

My plans for them?

I'd like to have one for linens. Even though I have a linen closet.
I'd love a huge one to house my tiny 13 inch tv.
I'd like to put all of my craft supplies behind the closed doors of a handsome beauty.
I'd put one in my dining room and would decorate it with my white dishes.

I mean, quiet frankly, I'd put one in every room.

For now, I was able top purchase this cupboard on Kijiji. It's the inexpensive version of an armoire. It measures a bit less than five feet tall with a depth of 12 inches. I scooped it up for $40. My darling husband picked it up for me while I was away visiting my family

Don't be fooled, it has three shelves.

My plan was to paint this sucker. And paint I did. Shoulda sanded it. Shoulda primed it. Shoulda, coulda, woulda. Didn't. Just kept slapping on white paint. Took far longer than it should have, but finally I loved the results.

It's gracing our bedroom right now. We threw out our old dresser with the bottom drawer that rarely opens. (I'm in the throws of redoing our bedroom. More photos to come soon!) I decided to let Shane use the cupboard because I felt his clothes would fit inside much better.

New crystal knobs purchased for $1 each.

My new weather vane.

I love these sea grass baskets. Three graduated sizes cost just $10 when they are onsale at Canadian Tire (a big box manly store). I have them literally all over my house.

Holding socks.

What furniture finds are you on the hunt for?

10 Minute Bedroom Re-Do

Nester has been doing a great series on taking just 10 minutes to create a room that you love. She shows quick and simple techniques on how to spruce up your space. She shows us yummy eye candy-type photos of her home to encourage us all along our sprucing up way.

My bedroom...or budiour as I like to call it...has needed a bit of sprucing. I love a space that is clean, organized and minus a lot of clutter. I have much bigger plans as far as decorating it goes...but I did the economical thing, and shopped my house. When I was done, I felt so incredibly wonderful. I just layed on top of my bed and smiled. It felt so wonderful to be in there.

Welcome to our love nest!

My Dresser
I corralled my lotions and potions in a much larger basket than they had previously been in. I don't like the visual clutter of them so it did me good to hid most of them. The candle is our unity candle from our wedding as well as the faux roses. A little sweet smell with a reed diffuser.

My Husbands Dresser
I carried the theme of the basket over to his dresser. In it is all of his junk. The basket is large enough and I'm short enough that I don't have to look at it all. Don't you just love how I have so many frames that DON'T have photos in them?

Nightstands
These babies (along with our dressers) came with the house. They used to be a hideous orange. I painted them chocolate instead. The cross-stitched print is from my mom. She made this for me a few years ago when I first moved to Canada to work. I love to keep it close to me.

The Heart
I just like having this single heart that my dad made me hanging above our bed. It seems like such a little love nest with it there.

My Shoe Organization
A quick peek into the closet. Here are most of my shoes. As you can see, there are a couple missing pairs...Oops! Forgot to put them away! I also keep my jewelery boxes on top of the shoe rack shelf instead of on top of my dresser.

While sprucing, I moved furniture and vaccuumed underneath everything. I cleaned dust off the baseboards. I also used my best smelling organic cleaning spray and cleaned all the surfaces of the dressers and nightstands. I then spritzed some plumeria linen spray. Ahh, smelled wonderful. All the sprucing up in the world won't be nearly as lovely if you've got dust and dirt all over the place.

Now head over to Nesting Place to see what other's have been up to! I can't wait!
