15 Week Bump-Date

I thought I'd give a little bump-date as I haven't for awhile. Shame on me! :)

According to The Bump, our little baby is continuing the march towards normal proportions and our baby's legs now outmeasure the arms. And, finally, all four limbs have functional joints. Your fetus is squirming and wiggling like crazy down in the womb, though you probably still can't feel the movements.

How far along?
I'm 15 weeks along but will soon be into my 16th week. According to my pregnancy ticker on my facebook page, I start each new week on Monday. I have yet to have an ultrasound to determine for sure that I am on track, but that will be coming up soon!

Maternity clothes?
I feel most comfy in my maternity pants and shorts. Though I can still wear a number of my pre-maternity pants and quiet a few of my shirts. I can feel myself growing out of some things though! And when I want to be the most comfortable - with nothing too clingy on - I wear a really cute maternity shirt from Old Navy.

I also have the white version of this shirt - but gross me out - there is a HAIR woven into the tightly woven crotchet around the neck. I have to take it back to the store and exchange it. I'm hoping I don't have to return it as I really like the shirt! I tried to just remove the hair but it is woven so tightly into the crotchet that I think I'd end up ruining the shirt by cutting it out of there. Gross!

Sleep?
Not too bad! I get up about once a night to go to the bathroom and when I'm washing my hands I stare at myself in the mirror and say something like "in a few months this will be a constant for you - up all the time during the night". And then I hurry back to bed!

Cravings?
Meh, not really. I love eating my strawberries and ice-cream but I have rarely wanted to commit murder for any particular food. Although I do enjoy eating Rice Krispies and have been loving "comfort" foods like mashed potatoes and warm flaky biscuits.

Aversions?
Prior to even knowing I was pregnant, I definatly had an aversion! For spinach! And normally I love it. In fact, I was eating spinach salads a few times a week. But no longer could I stomach them. I'm not sure if it's still an aversion but I certainly don't want to test it! Also, I've gagged a number of times while brushing my teeth. I have to call on some techniques I learned in Dental Assistant school to help me not loose my breakfast!

Best moment this week?
It occured today actually. I have been waiting to get my Ontario Health Card (which gives me access to the free health care here) and since the hubby works all day and I am vehicleless until he comes home, I haven't been able to get it. Well, today he was sent home early from work because of the rain (he's been working outside) and we planned to go get my health card today. But Shane called the health card office and talked to a snarky woman who said I was not eligable until my Permenant Residancy was approved - though there was an act that took place in April of 2009 that allows those who have been approved for PR to receive a health card. All of this to say, there were a ton of tears on my part as that meant that all expenses for this pregancy come out of our pocket. As well, I was angry that again, I was being jerked around by yet another gov't agency. One agency saying one thing, one saying another. So after a nap and a bowl of mint chocolate chip ice-cream, I called the Ministry of Health (the agency who had the information about the act that took place in April '09). The guy I spoke to was EXTREMELY helpful and told me that I was in the right! That the woman was wrong and that once I receive my paper from the gov't stating they have received my application, then I could go get my health card. We had a lengthy conversation and he told me about a complaint department I could contact as well as how to go about proving that I was in the right if needed be - but all of this to say, as soon as I get my paperwork from the gov't, I will get my free health care. WHEW! Good news for me and this baby.
(Please note that I am under the care of a midwife and am having regular appointments and won't be billed until 6 weeks after delivery. I just want all of this taken care of long before then!)

Movement?
None yet! But I should be soon - maybe next week at the earliest.

Gender?
We can't wait to find out! I should know in a few weeks. Any guesses?

Labor Signs?
No, thank goodness!

Belly Button In or Out?
In for now but I'm afraid by the end of this thing it may be teetering on making itself an outie.

What I Miss?
Sleeping on my back and spray painting. But not at the same time.

What I'm Looking Forward To?
Actually finding out what the gender of our baby is so then I can really focus on getting things ready for the baby. Clothes shopping!! And creating the nursery.

Weekly Wisdom?
I'm constantly reminding myself to take it easy. To enjoy this time. To savour the moment. To listen to my body and sleep when I feel tired. To take a breath when I'm tempted to loose my cool. And to record these moments. My mother-n-law bought me this incredible book called "Praying Through Your Pregnancy". I recommend it for all the pregnant gals out there! It's been so wonderful going through it.

Milestones?
I'm in my 2nd Trimester! I have been for a couple of weeks but that's just so exciting for me!

I definitely agree about taking it easy! Even now I find myself bending over sometimes or getting up too quickly and I end up seeing stars or squishing her. I think part of it is that I have been feeling really good, and other than the squigley worm in my belly, I don't feel really 'pregnant'.

As well,YAYYYY about free health care!!!! The midwives are so fantastic, I'm glad you get to use them free of charge.

I still sleep on my back sometimes, even though the Bump says not to. I asked my midwife about it and she said that studies have actually shown that it only cuts off like .01% of the babies oxygen (unless you've got some sort of vein/artery condition) and that if it is causing a problem while you are sleeping, it would wake you up as you'd get pains, etc. It starts to get kind of uncomfortable on your side near the end though, as I always feel like I'm lying on a little leg or something, but I think it's just my skin been squished between her and the bed. lol. Get a body pillow to cuddle, they are so helpful!

Oh, and sign up here for the free diaper bag. It is the BEST bag and comes with some free stuff (including formula that you can give away to a friend if they're not breastfeeding!): https://www.nestle-baby.ca/Templates/Form.aspx?NRMODE=Published&NRNODEGUID={AB7678C3-1BAC-4F78-A30E-8A0FBA42F77E}&NRORIGINALURL=/en/register/index.htm&NRCACHEHINT=Guest

Congratulations! The oldest of our three was born in Canada. I had a great experience (although it was 13 years ago) and he's the only one we didn't pay a penny for!

OHHHHHH I love this blog entry, you sound so up beat and positive! I am sorry that worker gave you a bad time...shame on her! A friend from school just worked her last day today, her baby is due in 9 days, you sound so much like what I watched with her! She and her hubby are having a girl, and is thrilled! Stay well, stay positive and I am guessing a boy being added to your family :>)!!

My belly button popped out around 16 weeks and has been living out loud ever since then. You can see it through ALL of my shirts but I don't mind. I'm praying your paper work all comes through soon so that you can get everything sorted out with your OHIP.

About the back sleeping, like Jen said, my midwife said it's just a myth. She said that if it's cutting off the circulation to the baby, it's going to bother you before it bothers baby and you would automatically roll over in your sleep. She said pretty well any position you get yourself in, will bother you before hurting baby, so just sleep however is comfortable.

I was never a back sleeper, always a side sleeper but lately, on my back is the only way I can get comfortable.

Thanks for the updates on how you are doing. It seems almost unreal you are pregnant and we are not able to share this with you. Hope to see you soon!

P.S. I'm still thinking it's a boy!

I'm so happy for you!
I'm NOT happy about how you were treated y the lady at the gov. agency. I hope you have better success going forward.

When I was pregant I had a really hard time eating meat, mashed potatoes and carrots. All these were things I really enjoyed before. I gaged all the time brushing my teeth and water of all things made me vomit!
My son is 4 1/2 and I still can't drink water 1st thing in the morning.
